Adopt-A-Spot FAQ
Want to make Alamogordo a cleaner, greener place? Join the Alamogordo Parks and Recreation Department's Adopt-A-Spot program! Check out our FAQs to learn everything you need to know about becoming a community beautifier.
- What is the Adopt-A-Spot program?
- What types of spots can I adopt?
- How long does the commitment last?
- What do I need to do?
It's a community initiative where individuals, families, businesses, or groups "adopt" a specific location in Alamogordo and commit to keeping it clean and beautiful.
Parks, trails, medians, sidewalks, even specific flower beds or entryways - there's something for everyone!
You can choose to adopt a spot for one year, or renew your commitment each year.
- Schedule regular clean-ups (weekly, monthly, or on your own schedule).
- Report any illegal dumping or maintenance issues.
- Share your experiences and inspire others!
- Is there any training or equipment provided?
- Does it cost anything?
- How do I choose a spot?
- What if my desired spot is already taken?
We'll equip you with a welcome kit containing safety vests, gloves, trash bags, and more. We also offer a training program.
The program is free and open to everyone! However, donations are always welcome to help us provide supplies and resources.
Browse our online map or contact us for suggestions. We can help you find a spot that suits your interests and availability.
No worries! We'll help you find another suitable location, or add you to a wait list for your preferred spot.
- Will I get a sign marking my adopted spot?
- What if I find hazardous materials during a cleanup?
- What should I wear during a cleanup?
Yes! After completing six months of service, you'll receive a personalized sign recognizing your contribution. The sign type upgrades with your continued commitment.
Don't touch it! Contact the city hotline immediately and let us know.
Closed-toe shoes, comfortable clothing, and sunscreen are recommended. We'll provide safety vests and gloves.
- What happens if I find something valuable during a cleanup?
- Can I organize a group cleanup for my adopted spot?
- How can I share my Adopt-A-Spot experience?
- Will I be recognized for my participation?
Turn it in to the nearest lost and found office or contact us for guidance.
Absolutely! Invite friends, family, or colleagues to join in the fun. Let us know so we can help promote your event.
We love seeing your progress! Send us photos or videos of your cleanups, or follow us on social media and post using #AdoptASpotAlamogordo.
You'll definitely be recognized! We feature dedicated adopters on our website and social media, and you'll receive a certificate of appreciation at the end of your commitment.
Remember: Every bit counts! By adopting a spot, you're making a positive impact on the environment and your community. We're here to support you every step of the way.
