Collection Center Transfer Station
The Collection Center in Alamogordo provides residents and authorized users with a convenient, organized location to properly dispose of a wide range of materials that are not typically accepted through regular curbside collection. Operated as part of the City’s integrated solid waste system, the Collection Center supports responsible waste handling, recycling efforts, and environmental protection for the community.
The facility accepts a variety of materials, including household refuse, construction and demolition debris, yard waste, and other approved items, in accordance with established operating rules and fee schedules. Materials are managed to promote safe handling, regulatory compliance, and efficient transfer to appropriate disposal or recycling facilities.
The Collection Center operates under policies adopted by the City Commission and is managed by the City of Alamogordo, ensuring consistency with local ordinances, state requirements, and regional waste management goals. Fee structures are established by resolution and are periodically reviewed to support sustainable operations and long-term service delivery.
By providing a controlled and accessible disposal option, the Collection Center plays a crucial role in maintaining neighborhood cleanliness, reducing illegal dumping, and promoting public health and environmental stewardship throughout the Alamogordo community.
Collection Center Rules & Regulations
Effective July 1, 2016, the City Commission of the City of Alamogordo adopted Resolution 2016 10, which established a revised fee structure for the Collection Center. The updated fees were approved on June 26, 2016 and implemented to support the ongoing operation and maintenance of the facility.

This is a solid waste transfer station that accepts:
- Anti-Freeze
- Furniture
- Household Appliances
- Household Garbage
- Scrap Metal
- Used Motor Oil
- Yard Waste
The facility serves residents of the City of Alamogordo as well as small construction contractors, providing an accessible and regulated option for the disposal of approved materials in support of community cleanliness and responsible waste management.
Materials
Customers are responsible for transporting their materials directly to the facility for proper disposal. The Collection Center operates as a self-haul facility and does not provide curbside pickup services.
Mulch is available to the public at no cost, subject to availability, and can be collected directly from the site. In addition to residential use, the facility also accepts commercial waste from authorized haulers and businesses, in accordance with established regulations, operating requirements, and applicable fee schedules.
For safety, environmental protection, and regulatory compliance, the Collection Center does not accept liquids, hazardous waste, or animal remains. These materials require specialized handling and disposal and must be taken to an approved facility authorized to manage those waste streams.
Acceptable Items
Materials accepted at the Lavelle Road facility include:
- Appliances
- Cell phones and household batteries
- Electronics and ink cartridges
- Used motor oil and antifreeze
- Rechargeable tool batteries
- Scrap metal
- Vehicle batteries
- Paint, subject to the following requirements: liquid paint is not accepted. Paint containers must have their lids removed, and the paint must be fully solidified by mixing it with dirt, cat litter, or a similar absorbent material prior to disposal.
All materials must meet acceptance criteria at the time of delivery. Facility staff may refuse items that do not comply with handling or preparation requirements to ensure safe and lawful operations.
High Winds
Please be advised that during periods of high winds, Collections Center operations may be temporarily suspended to ensure the safety of staff, customers, and visitors. Closures are implemented as necessary based on site conditions and safety considerations. On days when winds are sustained at 30 mph or higher, we will close for safety reasons.
